One of the most cost effective and most efficient items of safety equipment your facility needs to have is high quality fire extinguishers. At Reliable Fire Equipment we offer only the finest of hand portable and wheeled fire extinguishers from Ansul Fire Protection. When fire strikes in your facility, it is to late to plan for the emergency. Only with preparedness and a sound safety program will your company be ready in the event of a possible disaster.
A survey prepared by the National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors recently revealed that hand operated portables extinguished over 90% of the fire incidents in commercial facilities. In most cases the fire was completely extinguished before fire department personnel arrived on the scene. And they can put out fires before the sprinkler system activates, and sprays water all over your furniture and carpets.
Employee training in the use of fire extinguishers should be an important part of your safety program. At Reliable we offer a complete program of employee training in the use of portable fire extinguishers. Studies have shown that an employee with even minimal training is able to put out significantly larger fires than those with no training.
Portable extinguishers require periodic maintenance. Consult the following table for more detail. Some services require a servicing company such as Reliable Fire Equipment. If you have a large number of units, you should consider our Fire & Safety Management Audit System. If you wish your facility surveyed, complete our Survey Request Form.
Certain portable fire extinguishers must now be fitted with a "Verification of Service" collar, or neckring, whenever the valve is removed from the extinguisher. This is a new requirement effective in 1998. Reliable Fire was one of the first fire extinguisher service companies in the nation to begin the use of "Verification of Service" neckrings. For more information on this new requirement, consult the latest changes to NFPA standard #10.
The following chart indicates the type of service, what is involved in the process, who normally performs the service, and the frequency required by NFPA standard #10. For the latest updates in NFPA #10, see our NFPA #10 update page.

From Amerex Corporation, Reliable Fire Equipment now stocks the model 2160 and 2162 kitchen portable fire extinguishers.
These units contain a special potassium acetate based, low PH extinguishing agent developed for use in pre-engineered restaurant kitchen fire suppression systems. The recent trend to more efficient cooking appliances and use of unsaturated cooking oils requires the use of a hand portable with greater fire fighting capacity and cooling effect to combat these very difficult fires.
Two sizes--2 1/2 gallon or six liter--with attractive stainless steel cylinders and easy to use hose and spray application wands. The superior fire fighting capability of the Wet Chemical agent is placed exactly where aimed. There is no dry chemical residue left to clean up after discharge.
For Computer RoomsA long awaited event, Reliable Fire Equipment is pleased to announce a new portable fire extinguisher for computer rooms and other facilities requiring a clean agent discharge.
Eight years in research in testing, the water mist portable fire extinguisher offers an alternative to hospitals, computer rooms, and other facilities in need of a clean extinguishing agent.
Along with NPFA Standards, many local authorities having jurisdiction enforce local rules and codes.
