A Few Facts Concerning CPRCardio Pulmonary Resucitation (CPR) is a technique that can save the life of a spouse, child, friend, or fellow worker. Cardiac arrest is one of the leading cause of death among adults. When an individual undergoes cardiac arrest, the heartbeat of the victim changes from a normal beat to a quivering rhythm known as ventricular fibrillation. The only way to stop the quivering is with the application of an electric shock. This process is known as defibrillation. CPR will not stop the quivering in the heart of a person in cardiac arrest, but it will provide just enough blood to the heart and brain until defibrillation can be applied. This can result in a dramatically improved chance of recovery.
